Promote your app through Social networking sites:-I personally reviewed that more than 80% of the top iphone programming sites are busy in conducting a promotion campaign for their app which is much higher than the percentage of the other group of the paid apps. Hence, making iphone app and publishing the app is not sufficient,  the world should know about it. Promote your app through Press release, Twitter, Facebook etc and rest the internet will take care of it. You will notice the magic.
